The Food Secretary said, ‘We have so far started distribution of fortified rice through PDS (ration shops) in 269 districts. The pace at which we are progressing, the remaining districts will be taken under the purview of the scheme before the deadline. He said that there are about 735 districts in the country, out of which more than 80 percent of the population eats rice. There is enough fortified rice in the country, because at present the production capacity of this rice is about 17 lakh tonnes
