SCERT Kashmir holds workshop on content enrichment, Pedagogical approaches on teaching economics

SRINAGAR, February 10: SCERT Kashmir completes three day workshop on content enrichment and pedagogical approaches in teaching Economics at senior secondary level.

 

The workshop was meant to identify challenges faced by economics lecturers in content, pedagogy and assessment.

 

The experts Prof. Imtiyaz ul Haq (Head Dept. of Economics university of Kashmir) Dr Fayaz Ahmad Bhat (Liaison Officer Humanities and Commerce/Head SLA SCERT J&K), Mr Nazir Ahmad (Sr. Academic Officer SCERT & programme Coordinator), Dr Arshid Rashid, Mohamad Amin Beg, & Prof Abdul wahid (Director Academics JK BoSE and Participants deliberated competencies based content, innovative pedagogy, 21st century skills sets like creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication media skills and life skills.

 

The experts also talked on extent of learning crisis in teaching and learning of economics.

The workshop was interactive and deliberated on decreasing enrollment in economics, unprepared economics teachers, lack of context specific examples & eContent, economics phobia, lack of guidance and counselling in career options in economics, lack of academia industry linkages, lack of ICT and IEC integration with teaching and learning of economics etc.

 

Therefore, urgent need was felt to change the syllibus and incorporate all applied and constructive components of economics like financial literacy, applied banking and taxation concepts, applied Indian economic concepts, applied statistical and mathematical concepts, business mathematics, digital economic concept, Sustainable Development Goals, interventions and innovations in international trade and finance and adopt constructive pedagogical practices like 5E and 7C lesson plan in these themes.
